With a vast array of Kickstarter games being released every week, it’s hard to sift through all the amazing titles vying for your attention.
But don’t worry, The Bear is here!
I’ll be compiling a weekly (hopefully!) list of Tabletop games that have come to Kickstarter over the previous seven days and deserve a moment of your time.
These are my choices from February 6th to the 12th:
Roil: The Strategy Card Game by Two Silver Denarii
Roil is a fast paced strategy card game where you must build your court, form alliances and disrupt other duchies to secure your dominance over the land. Using a series of 70 vibrantly designed cards, you’ll slowly add followers to your court by matching colours and rank. As your court grows so does the likelihood an opposing realm may infiltrate and destroy your rise to power. But don’t worry – you too have many tricks up your sleeve and are as dangerous as you are benevolent.
Roil is an easy to learn, quick to play card game that’ll have you overthrowing your friends in no time.
To get your hands on a copy of Roil will cost you a minimum of $17.
Roil’s campaign ends on the 8th of March with delivery expected May 2018.
Business Panda Beach Party by Jack Dire
Business Panda Beach Party is a team-based party game filled with ludicrous combinations for your friends to act out. In a lot of ways, it’s kind of like Cards Against Humanity meets charades. One player will be given a randomly-assigned character and attribute to act out. It’s then their job to embracing their inner James Van Der Beek and encapsulate these themes in one ultimate performance. However, they can only use the word ‘bamboo’ during the scene; it’s with this random gesticulation and repetition of ‘bamboo’ that their teammates have to select the cards which best encapsulate the performance.
Business Panda Beach Party is a loud and ridiculous game that is definitely for those more extrovert gaming groups.
Business Panda Beach Party will cost a minimum of $20 but for $30 you get the core set, both expansions and a Kickstarter exclusive booster pack.
Business Panda Beach Party’s campaign ends on the 23rd of March with delivery expected June 2018.
Prehistory by A-Games
Prehistory is a gloriously complex board game that has you take control of a stone-age tribe trying to survive through multiple seasons. You come from a settlement that has become so overpopulated that resources are no longer able to sustain such a vast group. Deciding that your best chance of survival is to split up, you venture out into the wilderness seeking new homes and fertile land in an attempt to found a new, stronger tribe. This is a classic Euro game filled with worker placement, time and produce management as well as an exploration mechanic that will have you trekking through inhospitable terrain. Prehistory comes with a vast array of wonderful parts that will truly pull you into the gargantuan task of building a new settlement and is well worth checking out.
Prehistory will cost a minimum of €50 but this does come with the base game and all unlocked stretch goals.
Prehistory’s campaign ends on the 8th March with delivery expected October 2018.
Space Park by Keymaster Games
Space Park sets you on a journey throughout the galaxy, collecting crystals and exploring new worlds. As you travel further into the cosmos you’ll gain greater renown and the all-important exploration badges; the player with the most explorer points at the end of the game is named the galaxy’s greatest adventurer.
Space Park is an easy to learn tactical space exploration tabletop game filled with fabulous artwork inspired by 50’s space adventures – the destination cards are stunning and I’d love to have posters of both Starlight Station and Fusion Falls hanging in my office.
Space Park will cost a minimum of $29 and comes with all the updates, stretch goals and free shipping to the US – which does nothing for me but nice for my American friends.
Space Park’s campaign ends on the 8th March with delivery expected August 2018.
Page Quest: Season 1 by Board&Dice
Page Quest is a fast paced adventure game that fits on a single page. Using dice management, you’ll embark on a solo PnP (Print and Play) escapade filled with wonderous stories and challenging gameplay. Page Quest is incredibly simple to learn but filled with critical decisions and tough choices, making it a fulfilling gaming experience. However, what we have here is more than a box containing 5 adventure sheets for you to play through: it also includes a 6 month subscription to Page Quest: Mythical Artifacts – a monthly print and play series set in the mid 90’s that incorporates character development and an overarching story filled with temples, caves and more loot than you can carry.
Page Quest is a well written, well designed tabletop game that you can play on the go. I downloaded their A4 Quest pdf adventure, which is available on their Kickstarter page, and absolutely loved it.
Page Quest: Season 1 will cost a minimum of $15 for either the Mythical Artifact PnP or the A4 Quest printed edition but for $22 you can get your hands on both.
Page Quest: Season 1’s campaign ends on the 28th February with delivery expected June 2018.
Argonauts: 2nd Edition by Alcyon Creative
Argonauts is a co-operative board game set in the heart of Greek mythology. Tasked with obtaining the golden fleece by King Pelias, you must board the Argo and set sail for adventure – but be warned, even the best laid plans can fall victim to the wrath of the Gods. Each player helps control the fate of Jason and his Argonauts as they battle epic foes such as Harpies, Sirens, Talos the bronze titan and the monstrous Scylla. You’ll also need to contend with navigating the perilous seas, ensuring the Argo remains seaworthy and maintaining the necessary supplies for the journey to Colchis and back again.
Argonauts is a great co-op game with a surprising amount of replayability considering its linear theme.
Argonauts: 2nd Edition will cost a minimum of $8 but this is only for the upgrade elements and doesn’t include the core game. If you do want the whole experience it’s going to cost you a minimum of $39.
Argonauts: 2nd Edition’s campaign ends on March 27th with delivery expected November 2018.
British Vs Pirates Volume 2 by Exocrate Games
British Vs Pirates is an exciting naval combat game filled with a bevy of miniatures, cards and dice that’ll see you assemble your own crew before setting sail and blasting your enemies out of the water.
Funnily enough for a game called British Vs Pirates Volume 2, there’s not a cup of tea in sight as this edition of the game comes with the croissant loving French fleet and a ragtag group of miscreants called Buccaneers. British Vs Pirates Volume 2 is a standalone game which will give you all the high seas mayhem you desire but also offers the chance to combine its content with the original, allowing for epic naval battle to take place across vast oceans.
British Vs Pirates Volume 2 will cost a minimum of $75 and comes with all unlocked stretch goals and some Kickstarter Exclusives.
British Vs Pirates’ campaign ends on the 2nd of March with delivery expected November 2018.
If there are any other board games you think I should check out or a Kickstarter campaign I missed, head over to the contact section and leave me a message.
